Re: Wheelabrator’s 1,500 tpd MSW incinerator in Saugus, Mass.
“…they had an acute problem with their electrostatic precipitators, and they literally had to run the plant based on the direction of the wind. In other words, if it was blowing inland, then they had to reduce the load. If it was blowing out to sea, then they could run it to design.”

- WMI director H. Jesse Arnelle serves on the board of Trustees for Pennsylvania State University (where he used to serve as President). Penn State is one of the most corporate-controlled universities in the U.S. – where tons of corporate and military research is done with no citizen right-to-know. For years, Penn State has promoted things that support Waste Management’s operations in Pennsylvania, including the land-application of toxic sewage sludge and the siting of a nuclear waste dump.According to the Corporate Library, “Mr. Arnelle became of counsel to Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge & Rice, a North Carolina-based law firm, in November 1997, after retiring in 1996 as a senior partner from the law firm of Arnelle, Hastie, McGee, Willis & Greene, a law firm whose predecessor he co-founded in 1985. He is a director of FPL Group, Inc., Armstrong Holdings, Inc., Eastman Chemical Company, Gannett Corporation, Textron, Inc. and Waste Management, Inc. Mr. Arnelle is the past chairman of the Board of Trustees of Pennsylvania State University and a director of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. He served as vice chairman and then chairman of the Pennsylvania State University Board of Trustees from 1993 to 1998.”
